Sri Radhakanta Math (Gambhira) is situated at Bali Sahi, Jagannath Puri, Orissa in an area of 5 acres of land. In 15th Century, during the ruling period of King Pratap Rudra, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu came all the way from West Bengal to pay a visit to Lord Jagannath. After visiting Lord Jagannath Temple, a well-known scholar named Kashi Mishra who was the Raj-Guru of King Pratap Rudra provided shelter to Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in his own house. It was a very small room, which is called as Gambhira. In Oriya language, Gambhira means a small place where the valuables kept safely.
The Gambhira is situated behind Sri Radhakanta Temple, which was the worshiping deity of Kashi Mishra (Raj-Guru). Until today, there are about 20 Mahantas in disciplic succession since the time of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

 It was under litigation for the last 23 years between the present Mahanta and one of the Pujari claiming as Mahanta, so the Math was maintained by Hindu Religious Endowment Commission of Orissa. Due to poor maintainence and lack of proper care, the Math came about to ruined condition. The Main Radhakanta Temple gambuj is cracked and it is dilapidated condition. One of the main walls of the Temple is collapsed. There is no well maintained and hygienic sanitation system inside the Math complex, where as hundreds of Western Tourists visit everyday. The kitchen condition is very primitive and water supply system is completely shattered. Electric wiring is completely damaged, which requires immediate attention for repairing. There are about 30 residential Babajis and 8 Pujaris and servants staying inside the Math. The Babajis perform 24 hour Kirtan as well as visit everyday to Lord Jagannath Temple for Kirtan Seva. Most of them are aged and renountiates. The place where they stay is also unhygienic and miserable condition. |

There should be an attractive main gate at the entrance of the Temple. There is a need of a massive statue of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu placed in a huge hall where devotees can dance and sing (Kirtan). Also there is a need of dining hall and hygienic kitchen to feed thousands everyday. We have also planned to plant different ornamental and medicinal plants including Tulsi in the open area around this Math. We seek your kind help for this Nobel cause for the renaissance, renovation, maintainance and further development.
